Stout-McKenzie inked for UFC on FOX

Published Oct. 5, 2013 4:18 p.m. ET

December’s UFC on FOX: Pettis vs. Thomson event is rapidly becoming a lightweight showcase. Just added to the card is a fifth matchup of action 155-pounders, with Sam Stout and Cody McKenzie agreeing to face each other at the Sacramento show.

Though Stout has struggled to put together any kind of consistency, the seven-year veteran of the octagon has won five Fight of the Night awards in his last 10 bouts. Meanwhile, he’s alternated wins and losses in his six matches. Highlights include a knockout win over Yves Edwards and a decision over Spencer Fisher, but he’s also suffered setbacks to John Makdessi and in his most recent bout, to James Krause.

The 29-year-old Stout is 19-9-1 overall.

In April, McKenzie rebounded from a knockout loss to Chad Mendes by earning a unanimous decision over Leonard Garcia at UFC 159, his first victory at featherweight. Despite that, he’s decided to return to lightweight, the division in which he competed for his first four octagon encounters. Including a submission win over Marcus LeVesseur, McKenzie has won two of his last three.

In his 17 pro fights, McKenzie (14-3) has only been to a decision once.

Though UFC on FOX: Pettis vs. Thomson’s card is still under construction, five of the 11 announced bouts feature lightweights including, obviously, the main event with the champion Anthony Pettis looking to defend his newly won belt for the first time. Other 155-pound matchups include Joe Lauzon vs. Mac Danzig, Danny Castillo vs. Edson Barboza, and the rematch between Abel Trujillo and Roger Bowling. The event takes place at Sleep Train Arena on Dec. 14.
