Ronda Rousey: I learn from watching Joanna Jedrzejczyk fight

Published Nov. 11, 2015 3:35 p.m. ET

The UFC's two women’s champions, Ronda Rousey and Joanna Jedrzejczyk share more than top billing this weekend at UFC 193 in Melbourne -- they also share a great deal of mutual respect for one another. Rousey is perhaps the biggest star the sport of MMA has yet to see, yet she recently told Megan Olivi that she learns from watching the Polish champion.

"I really learn a lot when I watch her," she admitted.

"To be honest, that we're on the same card I'm bummed out that I'm going to be distracted and focusing on my own thing and I'm not going to be able to sit down and watch like, 'I wonder what she's going to do.'"

Given that Rousey, herself, always goes for and gets the finish, she also admires Joanna's aggressiveness, as well as her technique. According to the bantamweight champion, Joanna Champion represents MMA at its highest level.

"I love that Joanna is always going for finishes," Rousey continued.

"She's not a point-fighter. She's all about being completely dominant at all time. And, she really ties everything together so well that it's not like you're watching a brawl. You're watching really high-level problem solving."

Jedrzejczyk also admires Rousey. Perhaps her biggest reason for doing so is Rousey's work ethic and determination to stay on top as a champion.

"I follow Ronda. I can see myself [in her]," she explained.

"She knows the rules ... She's a champion and she knows what to do and she keeps on training hard, and doing the same things. Other people, our opponents, they think it's easy to be a champion. It's not. It's all about hard work, and that's all."
