Ricardo Lamas vs. Charles Oliveira highlights (Video)

A featherweight clash between two of the division’s best went down on Saturday night in Mexico City, when No. 4 Ricardo Lamas took on No. 8 Charles Oliveira.
The bout sparked some controversy before the opening horn, as Oliveira missed weight by a jaw-dropping nine pounds, weighing in at 165 pounds just hours before being scheduled to participate in a featherweight contest against Lamas. Despite the tremendous weight difference, Lamas refused to call off the bout and would insist on proceeding on with the fight; and take home 30 percent of Oliveira’s purse in the process.
The first round was all Oliveira’s, who dominated the ground game by mixing in a nice combination of ground-and-pound as well as submission attempts. At the end of the round it looked as though Oliveira had a rear-naked choke locked in for the victory. However, Lamas refused to tap and would carry on after being saved by the bell.
The second round seemed to be more of the same, as Oliveira looked to get the contest back down to the ground. But after a good scramble from both men ‘The Bully’ was able to lock in his patented guillotine choke and force Oliveira to tap for the emotional victory.
After the contest Lamas thanked his native Mexican crowd for their support, as well as dedicating his performance to his mother, who is undergoing a battle with cancer, and his late training partner Josh Samman who passed away earlier this year.

The rest of the year will leave us with plenty to watch in the UFC. The biggest fight to come will be Conor McGregor getting after it at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
