Report: Fabrcio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez II targeted for UFC 207

A heavyweight title between former foes Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez is being targeted for UFC 207 in December
A heavyweight rematch between former champions Cain Velasquez vs. Fabrcio Werdum is being targeted for UFC 207 in December.
MMAJunkie was the first to report the news.
Werdum (21-7-1) previously submitted Velasquez (14-2) in their title fight at UFC 188 last July, dethroning the then-champion in the process. To two were scheduled to meet in an immediate rematch in February before a pair of injuries forced both men off the card.
Instead of re-booking the heavyweight bout, Werdum was matched up against Stipe Miocic at UFC 198. Miocic would go on to knockout the Brazilian early in the first round. ‘Vai Cavalo’ eventually rebounded with a dominant decision win over Travis Browne at UFC 203 this past weekend
Since losing his belt, Velasquez was seen crushing Browne with strikes at UFC 200 in July. This marked his first win since his decimation of long time rival Junior dos Santos at UFC 166 in October 2013.
Following Werdum’s most recent victory, the former Arizona State wrestling All-American called for the rematch with his former foe if Miocic isn’t ready to return to action right away.
“If Stipe doesn’t want to take a break I want him next,” said Velasquez during an appearance on the most recent episode UFC Tonight. “I’ve been hearing he might not want to fight again until 2017. So if that’s the case then the only other fight that I would want, and the only other fight that makes sense right now, is Werdum in December.
“This is personal. I could just sit around and wait, but if Werdum wants to fight in December then let’s make it happen.”
UFC 207 will go down on Dec. 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. No bouts have been made official for the card.
