Ovince Saint Preux wants Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson in August
UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani reported Tuesday that, according to UFC 205 pound contender Ovince Saint Preux's coach Joey Zonar, the surging light heavyweight wants to follow up his first-round KO win over Patrick Cummins earlier this month with a fight in his home state of Tennessee on Aug. 8. If OSP has his way, he'll not only fight on that Nashville UFC card, he'll do it against a former champion and legend, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
Jackson, of course, made a successful return to the UFC this past Saturday at UFC 186, with a decision win over Fabio Maldonado. Saint Preux is currently riding a wave of two consecutive first-round upset KO wins.
Before beating Cummins on April 18, OSP took out former champion and Pride Grand Prix champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua last November. UFC Tonight co-host Kenny Florian loved the idea of Jackson vs. Saint Preux in a Tennessee bragging rights summer bout, saying, "OSP already has a win over a Pride legend, 'Shogun' Rua. I think he wants a second one," and, "I love the fight."
According to Helwani, however, Jackson's own team is much less enthused about the idea. "'Thanks but no thanks,'" were the words he used to describe their sentiments.
Even so, Jackson's last opponent, Maldonado, got the fight with "Rampage" by publicly calling for it so you just never know. We'll keep you posted with updates on this story as they develop
