Myles Jury accepts bout with Nate Diaz; asks 'are we getting it or what?'
Undefeated lightweight prospect Myles Jury has been gunning for a top fight ever since he dismantled Diego Sanchez at UFC 171, and when matchmaker Joe Silva came calling a week ago he thought he found the perfect opponent.
Jury was offered a fight against UFC bad boy and former lightweight title contender Nate Diaz for an upcoming summer show, and it took the former Ultimate Fighter competitor a matter of seconds to say yes to the bout.
Unfortunately in the days since accepting the fight, Jury hasn't heard a word from Diaz or his camp on the matter and he's hoping a public plea will get a response from the Stockton, California native.
"I confirmed to fight you Nate upon receiving the call and been waiting on you for a week to do the same," Jury told FOX Sports. "Nothing but respect, but we getting it or what?"
Jury has always been a very respectful fighter and he wants to make it clear he's approaching Diaz the exact same way. It doesn't mean, however, that Jury won't do everything in his power to land the fight including his statement directed at Diaz on Saturday.
Jury has been itching for a fight to get him closer to title contention and Diaz would fill that bill and then some given his past reputation in the division where he's not only one of the top fighters but he attracts a crowd like few others can at 155 pounds. With an undefeated record and improvements shown in every fight, Jury is ready to prove he belongs among the best of the best in the lightweight division and beating Diaz gets him one step closer to his ultimate goal -- fighting for the title.
Now it's well documented that Diaz has been involved in a contract dispute with the UFC ever since his last win over Gray Maynard in late 2013.
The situation has gotten so dire of late that Diaz was actually removed from the lightweight top 10 because he was turning down fights according to UFC president Dana White. It appears the UFC is still trying to lure Diaz into another fight, and facing an undefeated lightweight with Jury's credentials appears to be the latest plan.
Jury has been on a roll since appearing on the 15th season of The Ultimate Fighter with five wins in a row including dominant victories over Michael Johnson and Ramsey Nijem. Now the San Diego based fighter wants to add Diaz's name to his growing resume, if he returns and accepts the fight.
The UFC has yet to make any official announcement on what will happen if Diaz continues to sit out. Obviously with a contract in place, Diaz won't be going anywhere else to fight, but it's unclear if cooler heads can eventually prevail to get him back in the Octagon potentially against Jury with a lightweight contender spot looming overhead.
