Moraga returns against Uyenoyama

Published Sep. 29, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

John Moraga will make his return to the Octagon against jiu-jitsu black belt Darren Uyenoyama as part of the December UFC On FOX 9 fight card. The flyweight match-up was announced on the UFC News Twitter account on Sunday.

This will be the 29-year-old Moraga’s first bout since losing in his bid to claim the flyweight title this summer. After a pair of impressive finishes in his first two UFC appearances, Moraga was dominated and eventually submitted by divisional champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in Seattle this past July. The loss dropped his record to 13-2 overall.

Uyenoyama also enters this contest after having had a two-fight UFC winning streak snapped. Following wins over Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Phil Harris, the 8-4 grappling specialist was stopped by Joseph Benavidez in preliminary card action on the April UFC On FOX 7 show in San Jose.

With the 125-pound ranks still filling out, the winner has an opportunity to get right back into the thick of the title chase with a strong showing.
