Matt Brown: I lost but I'm not defeated

Published Mar. 17, 2015 1:54 p.m. ET

Following his latest bout against Johny Hendricks at UFC 185, Matt Brown returns to the Great MMA Debate podcast to talk about his fight and what comes next for the top five ranked welterweight.

Brown lost a unanimous decision to Hendricks, which marked his second defeat in a row after dropping a fight to current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in 2014.

In the matchup with Hendricks last Saturday night, Brown struggled to stop the takedowns from the former NCAA champion, but still gave everything he had to try and come away with a victory.  As upsetting as it was to lose, Brown knows that his story isn't written yet and this was just another chapter in a book that still doesn't have an ending.

"I lost but I'm not defeated.  I'm only disappointed in myself. I know in my heart, with every ounce of energy in me, I can be a champion," Brown said on Tuesday.

"I just fought the two previous champions and I know where I'm at.  I'm honest enough person if that really, truly say if that wasn't the case.  I'd sit here and say 'I cannot be champion, I'm going to fight for fun because I f---ing just love fighting and I'm going to go out there and swing for the fences and get Fight of the Night and go home'.  That's something I wouldn't care doing that until I'm 40 years old.  But I know I can be champion."

Brown will discuss the fight with Hendricks while also addressing the wrestling issues that kept him from striking for the majority of the three round affair.

Brown along with Columbus, Ohio radio host Jeremy Loper and FOX Sports own Damon Martin also take fan questions as well as discusses the other big fights from UFC 185 including two titles changing hands as well as Alistair Overeem and Henry Cejudo picking up big wins in Dallas.
