Mark Munoz vs. Gegard Mousasi headlines UFC Berlin event

Published Mar. 20, 2014 1:30 p.m. ET

The UFC has cemented the main event in the second leg of it's two-continent May 31 doubleheader.

Middleweights Mark Munoz and Gegard Mousasi will headline the card set for Berlin, Germany, the promotion announced on Thursday.

That will be one of two shows taking place that day. The Berlin event will take place first, and later in Brazil, the UFC will host another show that is planned to feature the long-awaited grudge match between Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva as the main event. This will mark the first time the UFC has promoted two events in one day.

The Berlin event will have middleweight implications for the headliners.

Munoz currently stands at No. 7 in the middleweight rankings. His last time out, Munoz (13-4) was defeated by Lyoto Machida via head kick knockout. Prior to that, he'd won five of his last six.

Meanwhile, Mousasi, who sits at No. 12, is also looking to rebound from a loss at the hands of Machida, this coming just last month. Mousasi fell in a unanimous decision, snapping a seven-fight unbeaten streak. Mousasi is 34-4-2 overall.

The Berlin show marks the UFC's first time back in Germany since visiting the western city of Oberhausen back in 2010. This show will take place at O2 world.
