Jared Cannonier to Glover Teixeira: Chins will be tested

Expect a slugfest between Glover Teixeira and Jared Cannonier tomorrow night at UFC 208 from Brooklyn.
Teixeira recently had his three-fight win streak snapped when he was stopped by light heavyweight knockout artist Anthony Johnson in their co-main event meeting at UFC 202 this past August in only 13 seconds. The 37-year-old, 205-pounder is still ranked No. 3 in the division’s rankings, and the unranked former heavyweight Cannonier has a massive opportunity to propel himself as one of the top contenders in the division with a win.
Cannonier suffered his first career loss when he was knocked out in the first round of his UFC debut after getting caught by Shawn Jordan, a fight he seemed to be controlling up until that point. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ responded with a first-round knockout of his own against Cyril Asker just three months later before making his light heavyweight debut against Ion Cutelaba this past December, where he took home an impressive unanimous decision win.
Earlier this week, Cannonier joined me on the Right Hook Radio podcast to discuss his bout with Teixeira, where he stated that he is looking forward to testing the chin of his Brazilian counterpart:
“Chins are gonna get tested,” Cannonier said. “I’m gonna put my hands on him. Whether it knocks him out again or not, it’s determined on whether it happens or not. I’m not going in there with any one set frame of mind. Like ‘Oh I’ma go in there and get the knockout or I’ma go in there, take him down, and get the submission.’ I don’t want to put myself in any boxes and limit myself. Cause I know I can excel in all facets of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world. Whatever happens happens. I’m just going in there to get my hand raised.”

With incredible knockout power and a deep Brazilian jiu-jitsu background, Cannonier is more than comfortable going anywhere inside the Octagon with the longtime MMA veteran Teixeira. If ‘The Killa Gorilla’ is able to upset his light heavyweight foe, he will certainly have made his arrival to the light heavyweight division known in a big way.
Teixeira and Cannonier will meet on the main card of UFC 208 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, Feb. 11.
