The biggest surprise in examining the matchup between Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi is the fact that Mousasi is still just 28 years old. Though he’s been an elite talent for years, he’s younger than middleweight champion Chris Weidman, contender Luke Rockhold and relative newcomer Uriah Hall, who are all 29.
There may be some upside still left to explore in Mousasi, who has one of the most quietly explosive games in the sport (29 finishes in 34 wins). Machida however, represents the most well-rounded and accomplished opponent he’s faced, giving Mousasi an opportunity a chance to make a statement or fall back.
Who's going to walk out of UFC Fight Night as the big winner? We have a pretty good idea who it's going to be.
