Glover Teixeira stops Patrick Cummins in UFC Fight Night co-main event

Published Nov. 8, 2015 12:30 a.m. ET

Patrick Cummins managed to do real damage to Glover Teixeira before falling victim to a nasty TKO in the second round of their co-main event fight at UFC Fight Night in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Early on, Cummins landed enough strikes to cut open the former title challenger, and also took the Brazilian down.

The American wrestler also landed big uppercuts from the clinch to the head of Teixeira, and a slick fake takedown into flying knee to the head, in the first. However, overhands and uppercuts dropped Cummins by the end of the first period.

In the second round, Teixeira appeared to smell blood and stormed Cummins with head punches and kicks. He stuffed a takedown attempt and then hurt Cummins further with more uppercuts and overhand rights to the head.

He continued his onslaught with hooks against the fence. Cummins would not go down or give up, but the referee smartly stepped in and called an end to the fight.

It came to a close at 1:12 of the second round. "I saw that he was hurt and I knew that it was just a matter of time until I knocked him out," Teixeira said afterwards.

Teixeira's win is his second straight and improves his record to 24-4. Cummins' mark drops to 8-3, overall.
