Georges St-Pierre still no closer to coming back despite new UFC anti-doping policy

When former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre decided to take a sabbatical from the sport after his last fight in late 2013, one of the biggest obstacles in a potential return was his desire for a much more comprehensive drug-testing program to help clean up MMA.

St-Pierre has spoken out numerous times about better and more enhanced drug testing to root out the cheaters and eliminate as many performance-enhancing substances as possible from athletes competing in the sport.

The UFC recently announced a new partnership with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on a new random, comprehensive drug-testing program and penalties that could eventually result in athletes being banned for life.

USADA is doing the testing independent of the UFC, and all athletes on the roster are subject to testing at any time, in any place throughout the course of a year. Considering how expansive the new program appears to be, it seems St-Pierre's concerns have been answered. Does that mean the former champion is now willing to come back to the UFC?

Not so fast.

According to sources close to St-Pierre via a report on "UFC Tonight," the new rules, regulations and testing program are "a step in the right direction to bring him back." but that wasn't the only reason he decided to walk away from the sport.

There are other issues in play in regards to St-Pierre returning or staying retired. For now, he's still on the sidelines with no definitive plans to return.

St-Pierre has been out of action since defending his title against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 and has never committed to returning for another fight since.

It appears, as of now, St-Pierre's stance remains unchanged.
