Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens in the works for UFC 205
It looks like Jeremy Stephens may get his wish as a fight between him and Frankie Edgar is being targeted for UFC 205 in New York.
Not too long ago, UFC featherweight fighter Jeremy Stephens called out Frankie Edgar because he felt it would be a great bout for both fighters and the fans. Well, it looks like he may be getting his wish.
According to Bloody Elbow, a matchup between both featherweights is being targeted for the UFC’s debut in New York at UFC 205. This fight card is shaping up to be a great one and with the addition of Edgar vs. Stephens, it’s only growing and getting better.
Since dropping to featherweight, Edgar has been on an absolute tear. Losing his featherweight debut to Jose Aldo in a title fight, he went on to win five straight fights against some of the best fighters in the division, including Cub Swanson and Chad Mendes. He even fought Urijah Faber and won pretty convincingly.
He’s coming off of a loss at UFC 200 in a interim featherweight title bout against Aldo, but he’s looking to bounce back and put his name back into title contention.
For Stephens, since dropping to featherweight, he has also looked mostly impressive, although he has been a bit inconsistent. He has wins over Darren Elkins, Dennis Bermudez, and most recently, he welcomed Renen Barao to the featherweight division and beat him by unanimous decision in what was his most impressive win to date at featherweight.
He has his hands full with Edgar, who’s arguably one of the best fighters in the division and a win for Stephens would shoot him up the rankings and set him up for a bigger fight in the future.
As stated earlier, UFC 205 is looking very promising with the addition of fights like Al Iaquinta vs. Thiago Alves, Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum, Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy and so on.
UFC 205 is set to go down November 12, 2016.
