Flashback to Silva's shocking KO loss
Get in your time machine, folks. We are going back, back, wayyyy back to 11 days ago at UFC 162 in time to re-live one of the most memorable events in UFC history.
Naming a segment "Fight Flashback" when the fight in question was a mere 11 days ago is a bit of a stretch, but who cares when the material is this good?
In case you've forgotten, we recently witnessed one of the most incredible events in UFC history, and that's no exaggeration. We saw a card filled with brutal finishes (Swanson vs Siver), wild back-and-forth exchanges (Edgar vs Oliveira), and the most dominant champion in UFC history lose his belt and get KO'd for the first time in his career (you can figure this one out).
Our good friend Jon Anik of Ultimate Insider took us on another behind-the-scenes adventure that showcases just how nuts UFC 162 was.
It's easy to forget about due to that whole 'Anderson Silva getting KO'd' thing, but Cub Swanson went full on beast-mode on Dennis Siver. We think Uncle Dana said it best.
Also of note, that Harai Goshi Judo throw Cub used to get side control, and then full mount on Siver was a thing of beauty. Props to Ultimate Insider for highlighting it.
Later in the night, Mark Munoz did what Mark Munoz does best. Throw sledgehammer fists and essentially donkey-kong pound you into submission. What was most impressive was not that he did this to the notoriously tough to take down Tim Boetsch, but that he did it after ballooning up to the size of a small Buffalo before his training camp.
In the second segment of Ultimate Insider's "Fight Flashback", we get taken through Frankie Edgar's far more competitive than expected bout with Charles Oliveira. If this fight didn't get your heart racing, you should check your pulse because you're probably dead.
Saving the best for last, we get treated to Silva vs Weidman. It's impossible to put the events of this fight into words, which is exactly why Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg's reaction to Weidman's fight ending KO (at 4:59) tells the entire story. Complete and utter shock, just the way we like it.
