Erick Silva’s fight camp video blog

For the 5th time, burgeoning Brazilian welterweight Erick Silva will defend his nation’s honor on it’s soil inside the Octagon at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Shields. The 29 year old who was born, raised, and still trains in Vila Velha, Brazil gives us a look into his famed fight camp leading up to his October 9th bout with Korean grappling machine, the “Stun Gun”, Dong Hyun-Kim.
The winner of 3 consecutive Fight Night bonuses, Silva is shown diligently working every aspect of his overall MMA game, especially his lightning quick hands and feet. “By training harder every day, the athlete naturally evolves psychologically,” asserts Silva who is 3-2 in the UFC with his most recent victory via a rare reverse triangle armbar in June. “We evolve with time, we evolve with each fight. I’ve learned a lot from each of my fights. And for sure on October 9th against Dong Hyun Kim, I will be using all that I’ve learned.”
Only one of many UFC stars training at X-Gym, Silva gets quality work with the likes of “Jacare” Souza, the Nogueira brothers, and Rafael Cavalcante. “High level training means high level fighting,” tells head coach Josuel Distak of the gym’s iron sharpens iron philosophy, which can be seen in full as Silva spars with fellow UFC welterweight and new teammate Paulo Thiago.
In a heartwarming moment, Silva reveals that his biggest inspiration is not the possibilities of money or glory, but his 3 year old son.
