Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone meets Bobby 'King' Green in the co-main event for UFC 178

Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone is always up for a fight so when the UFC came calling to offer him a co-main event slot at UFC 178 it didn't take him long to say yes.

Cerrone will meet former Strikeforce standout Bobby Green in the new co-main event on the upcoming card taking place on September 27 from Las Vegas.

UFC officials confirmed the fight on Thursday.

Green was already scheduled to compete on the card against Jorge Masvidal, but is getting pulled in favor of taking on Cerrone in the new co-headline bout for the UFC 178 card. Masvidal will remain on the show as well against James Krause in a new lightweight bout on the undercard.

Cerrone has touted himself as a fighter always willing to accept a challenge and with a plan to compete six times in 2014, this will put him one step closer towards that goal.

Staying busy looks good on Cerrone as he has gotten consistently better with each fight this year, most recently taking out Jim Miller at a UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1 event in July. He'll have his hands full with Green, who is undefeated since coming to the UFC and most recently took out former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.

The two lightweights will square off as the new co-headliner alongside the flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, who main event UFC 178 in the wake of the injury to light heavyweight champion Jon Jones as he was forced off the show earlier this week.
