Daniel Cormier: I can't wait to fight Jon Jones, again
Daniel Cormier didn't become UFC light heavyweight champion until Jon Jones was stripped of the belt and suspended by the UFC. After that, Cormier beat Anthony Johnson for the vacant title, and defended it against Alexander Gustafsson earlier this month.
Before those two wins, Cormier lost a five-round decision to Jones after a long and heated build-up. Even though Cormier's fortunes improved with Jones' absence, the Olympic wrestler sounded thrilled, recently, that the former champion is no longer suspended and so set to return.
"Congrats to Jon ‘Bones’ Jones on his reinstatement to the UFC,” Cormier recently wrote on his Facebook page.
Cormier is a competitor, through and through, and he wants the chance to get to get revenge on the only man to have ever beaten him in MMA. The new champion just hopes that Jones can stay out of legal trouble long enough to allow the rematch to happen.
"For MMA fans this is a good day," he went on.
"A guy that has shown to be one of the greatest fighters of all time is back. As a competitor there could be no other outcome and this is the best news I've heard in a long time. Jon has said the right things and his actions are backing his words up. We all hope this is the last time we have to deal with anything like that. And lastly as a fan [you] get to see [two] of the best fighters compete against each other."
The fans aren't the only ones looking forward to that rematch, however. Cormier is looking forward to proving that he can take his rival out.
"With that being said," he concluded, "I can't wait to compete against him again."
