Dana White: If Weidman beats Belfort, he's the pound-for-pound king
Chris Weidman is already sitting on top of the world as the UFC middleweight champion and the first and only fighter to ever hand legendary fighter Anderson Silva two defeats.
The new champion's stock will rise even higher if he can get past his next test – a middleweight title bout against human wrecking machine Vitor Belfort later this year. Belfort has won his last three fights in row while knocking out Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
Weidman has already proven he's the best middleweight by beating the fighter most consider the greatest of all-time, but he can surpass even the greatness of current champions like Jon Jones if he's able to defeat Belfort in his next fight.
UFC president Dana White believes a Weidman win over Belfort puts him atop and alone on the mythical pound-for-pound list.
"He's the best, he's No. 1," White told FOX Sports when asked where Weidman would rank with a win over Belfort. "How's he not the No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world if he beats Vitor Belfort? It's impossible not to call him the No. 1 pound-for-pound guy."
This reaction from White comes just over a week after he touted bantamweight champion Renan Barao in a similar fashion. The Brazilian 135-pound title holder has been undefeated in his UFC and WEC career, while holding an overall unbeaten streak for 31 straight fights.
