Shortly after being fined $150,000 by the NSAC for the UFC 202 press conference incident, Conor McGregor reacts to the situation on Twitter.
If you follow the sport of MMA, then you know who Conor McGregor is. We already know that at this very moment, he’s the face of the UFC, but he may very well be the face of MMA. The recent popularity and growth of the sport is almost all because of him. His brash personality, the way he carries himself, and most importantly, his fighting abilities are something to admire. He’s a star.
Most recently, he went to war with Nate Diaz at UFC 202. After a hard-fought fight, he managed to get the win. Although the fight is very memorable and is one of the best of the year, there’s another incident prior to the fight that people still have fresh in their minds.
At the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference, Diaz decided to get up early and leave and as he was leaving, both he and McGregor started slinging insults at each other. But, words weren’t the only things that were being thrown out. Soon enough, the two started throwing water bottles and even Monster energy drink cans. It definitely wasn’t a good situation, considering that somebody from the crowd could have gotten injured.
On Monday, a hearing was held at by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, where they unanimously voted to fine McGregor $150,000, which is 5% of his UFC 202 show purse, and he must complete 50 hours of community service. It didn’t take long for McGregor to react to the fining, and it’s what you would expect from him.
Other than the tweet, McGregor seemed very honest and apologetic at the meeting, stating that it was a high stakes fight for him and how he was sorry for what went down.
McGregor is scheduled to challenge Eddie Alvarez for the UFC’s lightweight title at UFC 205 on November 12 in New York.
