Count reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor among those showing support for CM Punk

On Saturday, Sept. 10, former WWE superstar CM Punk, real name Phil Brooks, made the walk to the Octagon to challenge welterweight prospect Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

Two-minutes and 14-seconds later, fans are seeing the culmination of a beatdown as Gall forced the former WWE superstar to tap to a tight rear-naked choke against the fence.

What made this spectacle even more intense was the fact Brooks was not only making his UFC debut, but his professional mixed martial arts debut altogether.

So when Gall wiped the floor with CM Punk, many fighters, both in and out of the UFC, voiced their approval after seeing a perceived outsider who essentially “skipped the link,” succumb to one of their peers. However, others were far more welcoming.

Among those who showed support for the Chicago native making the walk so few would be able to was reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

“I’ll tell you what, fair play to [CM Punk],” McGregor told TMZ. “Because he got in there and fought, and not a lot of people do. Not a lot of people have the balls to make that walk, so fair play.

“Got his ass whooped. God bless, he got his ass whooped. Those WWE guys are straight p—–s, I told you so, but he isn’t. He got in and fought. So fair play to him. Respect.”

This comes just a month after McGregor made headlines when he called out the entire WWE locker room while famously comparing John Cena to a “fat  40-year-old Mr. Olympia.”

McGregor walked away the bloody victor after 25-minutes of hard-fought action against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 last month.

While the Irishman has not revealed who his next opponent will be, he has multitude of fighters calling for the fight, including UFC lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez.
