Chris Weidman: Don't worry, I'll be ready for UFC 175
Chris Weidman won't be ready by July 5? That's news to Chris Weidman.
Tim Kennedy said last week that he didn’t believe Weidman, the UFC middleweight champion, would be 100 percent for his title fight against Lyoto Machida at UFC 175 after having surgery on both knees.
"There's no way he's ready by July," said Kennedy, a top middleweight contender who meets Michael Bisping at the TUF Nations Finale. "There's no way."
Weidman disagrees, reported UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani on Wednesday. Weidman said there's no truth to any of that talk. He feels great, is already lifting weights and is doing personal training. He's not worried -- he'll be in Las Vegas.
The fight was initially scheduled for UFC 173 on May 24, but Weidman needed the two surgeries. The Long Island native's knees have long been an issue, going back to his days as a wrestling All-American at Hofstra.
Weidman-Machida is the headliner for the UFC's big annual Fourth of July weekend show, which also coincides with International Fight Week. At that show last year, the undefeated Weidman knocked out Anderson Silva in stunning fashion to win the belt.
