UFC middleweight contender C.B Dollaway will not be competing at UFC 203, due to sustaining an injury whilst riding on a faulty elevator at a hotel in Cleveland, Ohio.

C.B. Dollaway may have suffered a back injury while riding an elevator that appears to have malfunctioned as he was inside. Although it remains unclear how serious Dalloway’s injuries are at this time. After consulting with UFC doctors following the incident he was ultimately removed from his preliminary bout against Francimar Barroso.

Dollaway is not the first UFC 203 fighter who has experienced issues with elevators in Cleveland. On the same Friday evening Fabricio Werdum, Yancy Medeiros, Brad Tavares and Urijah Faber found themselves trapped inside an elevator for 10 minutes. It is believed to have been the same hotel. Although on that separate occasion no one appears to have sustained any form of injuries.

The UFC has since released the following official statement:

”UFC announced that CB Dollaway has had to withdraw from his scheduled bout at UFC 203 due to an injury he suffered last night as a result of an elevator accident at a hotel in Cleveland.

UFC officials have been in communication with hotel management, and the hotel is currently evaluating and investigating the issues surrounding the incident.”

UFC 203 pay-per-view will now move forward with just ten of the originally scheduled twelve fights on the card. After also losing Ian McCall Vs. Ray Borg flyweight bout due to Borg pulling out of the fight due to an illness earlier this week.

Despite the two bouts having been removed from tonight’s event, the card remains stacked with fan favourite fights. CM Punk is set to make his UFC debut against Mickey Gall in the welterweight division. Cleveland’s own Stipe Miocic will look to defend his UFC heavyweight title for the first time. In front of his home crowd against former Strikeforce champion, Alistair Overeem.
