Al Iaquinta to undergo surgery on right knee, hopes for return in six to eight months

After a great deal of thought, consultation and stem cell injections, UFC lightweight Al Iaquinta has decided to undergo surgery to repair his right knee after all. UFC Tonight reports that after thinking about whether or not to go under the knife, "Raging Al" spoke with UFC officials and decided that it would be best for him if he decided to have his leg surgically repaired.
According to the UFC Tonight report, the Serra/Longo fighter has very little cartilage left in his injured knee. Doctors will attempt to transfer cartilage from a cadaver to Iaquinta's leg, behind his knee cap.
The New Yorker hopes to have the surgery as soon as is possible, and then return to competition in six to eight months. Iaquinta (12-3) has won his last four fights, with his most recent victory coming over Jorge Masvidal in April.
