Williams' cast removed after 7 months
Former world No. 1 Serena Williams is targeting a return to the court in time for May's French Open, having finally had the cast removed from her right foot after seven months, the New York Post reported Sunday.
Williams, 29, said she would start training right away, and hoped to be back in her trademark high heels in two weeks.
She had surgery after cutting her foot on broken glass following her win at Wimbledon last July.
"I have been wearing it for so many months, so I am so happy. My foot feels good and I'm starting to train right away, and I intend to be back for the French Open [in May]," Williams told the Post at a pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles.
Asked if wearing the cast for so long had left her frustrated, Williams — who bedazzled it with Swarovski crystals and did not let it hold her back from attending red carpet events — said, "I just try to stay positive."
