Vandals ruin Murray sand sculpture

Published Sep. 7, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

The head of an Andy Murray sand sculpture has been wrecked by vandals in Dorset, England.

Several other nearby displays were also damaged, the BBC reported. An Iron Man sculpture was knocked over and the heads of Mike and Sully, characters from Monsters Inc., were destroyed.

Director Mark Anderson crafted the tribute to Murray in celebration of the British tennis player's Wimbledon championship in July. He called the vandals "morons and idiots" and said he was offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

The sculptures are made out of sand and sprayed with a light polyvinyl alcohol. Anderson estimated he spent 300 hours on the Murray sculpture.
