The American pairing of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy won their first doubles title together by beating Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova of Russia 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the Open Gaz de France on Sunday.

This was Mattek-Sands' ninth doubles title and the 17th for Shaughnessy.

The Americans clinched victory when a volley from Makarova went long.

''I had a little bit of a layoff,'' Shaughnessy said. ''I've had a couple of knee surgeries so this means a lot to come back ... We're a dangerous team.''
