LONDON (AP) Leon Smith has signed a new contract as Britain's Davis Cup captain through 2018 after leading the country to its first title in the team event in 79 years.

Britain's Lawn Tennis Association made the announcement on Wednesday.

Smith was appointed as captain in April 2010 and has guided Britain to victory in 13 of its last 15 matches in the Davis Cup. Britain beat Belgium in the final last year and began its title defense with a win over Japan at the weekend.
