When serve comes to volley, sure, the All England Club would like to get its signature towels back from Serena Williams. But with tennis being a country club sport and this club being in a place where they still have kings and queens, the All England Club is not going to be making a stink of it.
"The players are requested to give the towels back," a Wimbledon spokesman told The Daily Mail, "but can keep them if they want to."
So this report from Thursday, detailing Serena's apparent knack for swiping the fabric, ends up being little more than some mildly amusing behavior from a tennis player whose behavior has a history of causing little stirs here and there.
Still, it's kind of weird for a player with the profile of Williams to be allegedly pilfering Wimbledon towels as souvenirs, even if they are pretty sweet looking:

According to The Mail, though, that's what Williams has made a habit of doing. When she takes the court, there are two of the famous purple and green towels on her chair. They're there to be used during play, but Williams is reportedly in the habit of immediately stuffing them in her bag and asking for more.
"There have been games where Serena has probably left with more than eight," the tabloid quoted some anonymous person as saying.
No word yet on what it's like to have Williams stay in your hotel room.
