Roger Federer will not play in the French Open.
The ATP's third-ranked player made the announcement on social media Thursday, writing "I have been making steady progress with my overall fitness but I am still not 100%." The complete statement:
The 34-year-old Federer, who won his only title at Roland Garros in 2009, has been battling a back problem in recent weeks. Prior to that, he had knee surgery in February but returned for the Monte Carlo Masters in April.
