Petra Kvitova badly injured by attacker, defends herself

Petra Kvitova, 2-time Wimbledon champion, was injured in her home by a knife-wielding burglar. She will miss several months to recover.

Petra Kvitova is lucky to be alive.

The Czech professional tennis player was attacked by a burglar in her home in the Czech Republic. She announced via social media that she is safe and recovering.

The tennis world’s thoughts and prayers are with Kvitova.

A top-ranked women’s singles tennis player, Kvitova has won Wimbledon twice. She was set for the 2017 WTA Tour and ready to enter tournament play leading up to the 2017 Australian Open.

The attack happened while Kvitova was having breakfast. A man claiming to be a maintenance worker entered her home and attacked the tennis star with a knife. Kvitova fought back and defended herself.

She is wildly popular in the Czech Republic and internationally. Her publicist announced that her injuries were not life-threatening, although Kvitova later announced that her hand suffered severe injuries. It is not yet known how much recovery time Kvitova will require. The tennis world hopes that her injuries will not negatively impact her career.

Petra Kvitova is currently ranked No. 11 on the WTA Tour.

She endured an up and down 2016 season, dropping from the top 10 rankings. Kvitova was set to enter the 2017 season motivated to move up in position. The attack will undoubtedly place her tennis life on hold for the time being. Fans wish her a speedy and full recovery. Fellow tennis player and new mother, Victoria Azarenka also wished Kvitova best wishes in her recovery.
