Nishikori beats Bakker in 2nd round of Barcelona Open

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) Two-time defending champion Kei Nishikori advanced to the third round at the Barcelona Open by beating Thiemo de Bakker 6-4, 6-2 Wednesday.
The second-seeded Nishikori broke the Dutchman's serve three times in his opening match at the clay-court tournament.
Nishikori will next play 33rd-ranked Jeremy Chardy in the third round. The Frenchman eliminated Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Also, 12th-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy defeated Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 and 10th-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany beat Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-2, 6-1.
