Nick Kyrgios is no fan of short shorts
Nick Kyrgios is no fan of short shorts. In fact, he detests them so much, he changed out of his too-short pair in the middle of a match at the Australian Open on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Australian was complaining that his shorts were causing him problems during his match against Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas. The umpire gave Kyrgios the extra time to change his shorts. After leaving the court in white shorts, Kyrgios returned in a longer black pair and play continued. Kyrgios went on to win the match 6-4, 7-5, 7-6.
Kyrgios expanded on the incident after he went on to beat Cuevas 6-4, 7-5, 7-6. Via ESPN:
"Just a bit of a mix-up before the game," Kyrgios said of his clothing faux pas. "I guess it will be fixed by the next round."
“Yeah, it’s probably not the best thing playing angry,” Kyrgios continued. “It does expend a lot of energy. In best-of-five tennis, you want to try to not use that much. You want to keep it all in the tank if you get that far.”
Kyrgios' on-court wardrobe complaints did not go unnoticed by the social media …
This has been quite a few couple of days for Kyrgios. He was also fined $4,340 for an audible obscenity in the first round.
