It's good to have Gael Monfils healthy again.
The vibrant French tennis star, known for his on-court antics, was at it again Friday at the Gerry Weber Open, giving this trick shot a try in his match against Tommy Haas:
We would call the gratuitous display showboating, but as you can see, Monfils lost the point. And the match, in three sets.
Monfils, once a top 10 player, battled injuries at the end of 2012 and has slipped to No. 67 in the world.
Why the casual air? Well, the Gerry Weber Open is a tune-up in the short grass-court season for Wimbledon, which starts June 24. But Monfils pulled out of Wimbledon on Wednesday, citing mysterious personal reasons, probably reducing the incentive to refine his game on the surface.
The best highlight from Friday's action, though, was probably Roger Federer's rare double-bagel win.
This sort of thing is old hat for Monfils, seen here defying traditional technique in a trick shot at the 2010 US Open in a match against Novak Djokovic:
