Kvitova leads Czechs in Fed Cup semis in Belgium

Australian Open quarterfinalist Petra Kvitova will spearhead the Czech Republic against Belgium in their Fed Cup semifinal.

Lucie Safarova, Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova are also on the team named Thursday by captain Petr Pala for the April 16-17 series in Charleroi on indoor hard court at Spiroudome.

The 18th-ranked Kvitova will try to repeat her performance from the Open Gaz de France in Paris in February, when she stunned Belgium's best player Kim Clijsters 6-4, 6-3 in the final for her third career title.

The Czechs are in their third straight Fed Cup semifinal, having lost to the United States in 2009 and Italy last year.

The Belgians, who won the competition in 2001, reached their first semifinals since 2006.
