Kei Nishikori dominant against Stan Wawrinka at World Tour Finals
Kei Nishikori beat Stan Wawrinka at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. A win over Wawrinka brought Nishikori his first point in the John McEnroe Group.
Kei Nishikori has started strong in London as he lost just five on his way to beating Stan Wawrinka 6-2 6-3. Nishikori prevailed over the Swiss tennis player Wawrinka in the first singles match of the second day in London.
The clash lasted just over an hour; one hour and seven minutes.

After the opening four games in the first set, the scoreboard saw Nishikori and Wawrinka standing at 2-2. The Japanese tennis player then went on to win four games in a row and eventually the opening set.
Nishikori was first player to break opponents serve in the second set as well, as he broke Wawrinka in the fifth game. After holding routinely his service games, Nishikori broke Wawrinka in the ninth game to close out the match.
The 31-year-old Wawrinka clearly wasn’t at his best in London on Monday. It remains to be seen if he will improve in his second match at the event on Wednesday.
Nishikori now has given himself a fair shot at getting past the Round Robin stage. He made the last four stage in 2014, but failed to repeat that succes last year.
On the other side, it just got tougher for Wawrinka. The Swiss player won’t have an easy task of reaching the semi-final stage at the World Tour Finals for the third straight year.
Andy Murray and Marin Cilic also feature the John McEnroe Group. The two are set to square off during the evening session Monday.
The 29-year-old Murray has won four ATP tournaments in a row and hasn’t lost a match in just under two months. The 2014 US Open champion will certainly be eyeing to put an end Murray’s winning streak tonight in London.
