Juan Martin del Potro denies tax evasion charges in Argentina
Juan Martin del Potro denies he has committed tax evasion in his native Argentina.
His spokesman Jorge Viale said Monday there was ''no evasion'' and all procedural steps were being followed to resolve the case.
The newspaper Perfil reported on Sunday that Argentine tax authorities had opened a case again Del Potro. The case is reported to involve prize money from 2010, the year after Del Potro won the U.S. Open.
Viale said in a statement to The Associated Press that ''while the lawyers for the firm that handles the financial statements (for Del Potro) have not seen the file, it is absolutely clear that there was no fraud.''
Del Potro has been sidelined since March following wrist surgery.
The Argentine tax office declined requests for comment.
