LONDON (AP) Former International Olympic Committee sports director Kelly Fairweather has been hired as chief operating officer of the International Tennis Federation.
The appointment of Fairweather, the CEO of the International Hockey Federation, was announced Monday.
ITF President David Haggerty says Fairweather's ''extensive experience in the Olympic movement as well as his in-depth understanding of the challenges faced by international federations made him the perfect candidate.''
The 55-year-old Fairweather served as IOC sports director from 2003-07. He was director of the European office of the World Anti-Doping Agency from 2009-10 and chief executive of the Sports Performance Institute of Stellenbosch University in South Africa from 2007-08.
Fairweather will start at the ITF on Jan. 1. He replaces Juan Margets, who will step down after 18 years in the role.
