ANDY MURRAY scooshed to another win over Roger Federer on Sunday night - but admits he was more concerned with his granny than the Swiss star.

The Scot walloped Federer 6-3 6-2 in the Shanghai Masters to seal the perfect start to his run into next month's ATP World Tour finals in London.

But only started beaming when he heard from injured gran Shirley, right, who told him his win helped her forget about the pain of a broken hip.

Murray said: "My gran had actually broken her hip not long ago and she had surgery just before I came to Shanghai.

"She was happy because she sent me a message after the match that said, 'My hip feels a lot better now'.

"She's a bit worried because my brother's wedding is in 10 days so I'm hoping she'll be up and about for that.

"I'm chuffed to have won the tournament for that reason."

Family matters aside, Murray was delighted to finally hit his stride just as he approaches his favourite time of year.

Defend

He's one of the best indoor players in the world and has his title to defend in Valencia in two weeks time, another Masters event to play in Paris the week after and then it's back to London for the big end-of-season showcase at the O2 Arena.

He said: "In the final here, that was the best I've moved since the Australian Open. I moved really well this week and when I move well I feel really comfortable on the court.

"So I need to make sure I feel that way as often as possible because it makes such a difference to my game."

Murray travel led back to London yesterday and, after a Murray travelled back to London yesterday and, after a couple of days off to recover from the jetlag, will be hard at work again.

He said: "I don't really like spending a week or 10 days off the court because I feel like I kind of lose my rhythm and just now, obviously, I just want to keep hitting the ball like this.

"So I'll take a couple of days off when I get home and then spend a lot of time on the court, hit loads of balls, play some sets - I'll spend more time on the court in the next 10 days than I will in the gym."

But Murray insists he won't let the Shanghai win go to his head.

He has played well in patches but stringing together a good run has escaped him.

He said: "I just want to continue playing the way I am now but it's important to stay grounded because I've been very inconsistent this year."
