Golubic ends teenager Masarova's debut run in Gstaad semis

GSTAAD, Switzerland (AP) Viktorija Golubic ended 16-year-old Rebeka Masarova's impressive tour debut in an all-Swiss semifinal at the Ladies Championship Gstaad on Saturday.

Golubic beat the French Open junior champion 6-3, 6-2 after both won quarterfinals earlier Saturday at the rain-affected clay-court event.

A record three Swiss players reached the semifinals of the first WTA tournament held in their home country since 2008.

Top-seeded Timea Bacsinszky was playing in the other semifinal against third-seeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands - a rematch of their French Open quarterfinal won by Bertens in straight sets.

Masarova's ranking will improve by hundreds of places from No. 797 after she won a quarterfinal 7-5, 6-2 against 38th-ranked Annika Beck of Germany.

The 105th-ranked Golubic earlier beat another German, 100th-ranked Carina Witthoeft, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4).
