Giraldo, Chela reach Santiago quarterfinals
Santiago Giraldo of Colombia reached his third quarterfinal this year when he beat Igor Andreev of Russia 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-2 at the Movistar Open on Thursday.
After missing four break points in the second set, the eighth-seeded Giraldo dominated the last set to finish off Andreev in just under 2 1/2 hours.
Fourth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela advanced to the quarters in Santiago for only the second in eight attempts after defeating Brazilian qualifier Caio Zampieri 6-2, 6-3. Fifth-seeded Potito Starace also moved on, defeating Pablo Andujar of Spain 6-4, 6-1 for a fifth straight time.
In a late match, top-seeded David Nalbandian played fellow Argentine Horacio Zeballos.
Three other seeded players reached the quarterfinals on Wednesday - defending champion and third-seeded Thomaz Bellucci, No. 6 Tommy Robredo and No. 7 Fabio Fognini.
