Garcia-Lopez struggled with his serve, double-faulting six times and being broken six times in the 3-hour, 14-minute match played in an occasional drizzle. Devvarman advanced to the quarterfinals when Garcia-Lopez netted an overhead smash.

Filippo Volandri of Italy also reached the quarterfinals by defeating Illya Marchenko of Ukraine 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.

Second-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia will face Marcel Granollers from Spain and No. 7 Janko Tipsarevic will play Mischa Zverev in other second-round matches Thursday.
