Dulgheru latest seed to exit Barcelona Open

Alexandra Dulgheru became the latest seed to exit the Barcelona Open when she was beaten 7-5, 6-3 by Spanish qualifier Estrella Cabeza Candela on Wednesday.

The 245th-ranked Cabeza Candela broke her second-seeded opponent seven times to set up a quarterfinal with Czech player Lucie Hradecka.

Fifth-seeded Sara Errani is the highest-ranked player left in the draw after a 6-4, 6-1 win over fellow Italian Maria Elena Camerin. She plays Alberta Brianti next.

Roberta Vinci beat Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 6-4 to ensure a third Italian in the last eight where Virginie Razzano of France awaits.

Polona Hercog of Slovenia and Spanish player Laura Pous-Tio also reached the quarterfinals after straight set wins on Wednesday.
