Dolgopolov wins opener in Nice

Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine and Adrian Mannarino of France won in straight sets on Sunday to move into the second round of the Open de Nice.

The fifth-seeded Dolgopolov beat Filippo Volandri of Italy 7-5, 6-3 to next play Pere Riba of Spain or Guillaume Rufin of France, while Mannarino defeated Somdev Devvarman of India 6-3, 7-6 (7) to next face the second-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic who got a first-round bye.

Dolgopolov dropped serve twice, hitting four double-faults and landing only 43 percent of his first serves, but converted four of 12 break points.
