Djokovic not thinking about taking No. 1

Published Mar. 22, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic said Tuesday he is not concerned with taking the world No. 1 spot from Rafael Nadal after his Indian Wells triumph, Sky Sports reported.

The newly appointed world No. 2 extended his blistering start to 2011 by clinching his third title with a three-set win over Nadal on Sunday.

Djokovic, who also scooped wins at the Australian Open and Dubai, has been tipped by some to usurp Nadal into top spot if he continues his purple patch into the clay-court campaign.

But the 23-year-old, who has yet to lose a competitive match this year, is not looking any further than this week's Miami Masters 1000 event.

"It's been the best start of the year that I could ask for," Djokovic said.

"But to be honest, my goal for the next period is to try and be consistent with success in the tournaments I have, and the results and rankings will come.

"The first three months are over and I've been playing very good, but there is 11 months of the whole season so it doesn't mean I will be No. 1 – it can turn around, someone else can win Grand Slams, it all depends."
