Two of the best in men’s tennis speak out on behalf of a Maria Sharapova comeback. Both say it will be good for the game.
World number one Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro spoke out in Shanghai in support of Sharapova returning to the tour.
The two men’s tennis stars showed support for Sharapova after she was recently declared not an “intentional doper.” Del Potro said that her return would be good for the sport.
I think for the tennis world it is gonna be nice to see her back. Everybody’s waiting for her, I wish all the best to her.
Djokovic had plenty to say in regards to both the suspension and her return.
From my opinion, I see that there was no intention in doing that (doping), because the rules changed this year, but it was an error and mistake that she and her team in a way had to take the consequences and pay for and the suspension is there rightly so.
And she, I think, was, in a way, courageous enough to come out and admit before anything was heard of this case. So in that way, I thought she handled herself with the dignity, which is for praise, but I think she’s also aware of the mistake. So then the rules are there to be followed.
