Third-ranked Andy Murray will open his 2012 season at the Brisbane International, one of the main tuneup tournaments for the Australian Open.

The three-time Grand Slam finalist bolsters the men's draw in Brisbane. The women's draw for the Jan. 2-8 tournament contains former top-ranked Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters, Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova along with local hope Sam Stosur, the U.S. Open champion.

Murray, who is considering withdrawing from the ongoing ATP World Tour Finals in London with a groin injury, has won 21 ATP titles and has been a finalist on nine other occasions including the 2008 U.S. Open, and the 2010 and 2011 Australian Opens.

He says, ''With a quality field it is the perfect way to begin my Australian campaign.''
