Andy Murray: 5 finals in Australia, can he win the 2017 Grand Slam?
Andy Murray enters 2017 as the current world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis. He is a five-time runner-up at Melbourne Park but will seek his first title at the major tournament.
Andy Murray reached the finals at Melbourne Park in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016.
His success at the major tournament shows that he has what it takes to be competitive at the Australian Open. He is, however, still seeking his first ever title at the tournament.
A majority of Murray’s finals losses at Melbourne Park have come at the hands of Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic. He and Murray have a storied rivalry that isn’t going anywhere. The Scot will no doubt have to get past both the mental and actual hurdle of defeating the likes of Djokovic and others in the 2017 Australian Open.
Djokovic is a six-time winner at the major tournament. He won in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. The upcoming season, however, kicks off with Nole in the world No. 2 position behind Murray.
The Scot aims to take the momentum of late 2016 right into the early tournaments and then to the Australian Open in mid January. The tennis world knows that Andy Murray has what it takes to win. He is a two-time Wimbledon champion and also won the US Open in 2012. Topping off his accomplishments are also the 2016 ATP World Tour Finals and 2 Olympic gold medals.
It’s time for Murray to win the Australian Open.
If momentum means anything, it is on Murray’s side.
He looks to round out the career Grand Slam, starting at Melbourne Park. Murray’s other major tournament to conquer is the French Open where he also made the finals in 2016.
