Agnieszka Radwanska is first player into Australian Open semifinals
Fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska became the first player through to the Australian Open semifinals, overpowering Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-3 in the opening match at Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday.
It's the second time in three years that she's reached the final four at Melbourne Park, having advanced to the semifinals in 2014 when she lost to Dominika Cibulkova after beating defending champion Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals.
It was Radwanska's third win in four matches against Suarez Navarro.
Radwanska will play No. 1 Serena Williams after the defending champion routed fifth-seeded Maria Sharapova in a later match.
Williams -- a six-time Australian Open champion -- is a daunting task in Radwanska's path to the title. But Radwanska said she wouldn't be as nervous this time around after reaching a Grand Slam semifinal for the fifth time.
"Right now I have nothing to lose," she said. "Hopefully (I'll) play my best tennis, otherwise I'll be in big trouble."
Radwanska's light serve gave her trouble Tuesday, and she conceded it could cause problems in her next match as well.
"I didn't serve that good today," Radwanska said. "I was trying to be focus on that, especially that it was tough on the one-hand side. But definitely when you play someone like Maria or Serena you're trying more. You have to really go for it, yeah."
Williams has won all eight of their career head-to-head matches.
