Zobahan, Al Sadd qualify for quarters
A brace from striker Igor Castro helped Iranian club Zobahan reach the Asian Champions League quarterfinals Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr.
Zobahad midfielder Mohammad Qazi opened the scoring in the first minute, and Castro followed it up with a close-range strike just five minutes later.
Castro scored again in the 63rd to make it 3-0 before Al Nassr pulled a goal back through Badr Al-Motava in the 67th. But eight minutes later, midfielder Shahin Kheiri sealed the win with a long-range goal and make Zobahan the second Iranian side in the quarters along with Foolad Sepahan.
Elsewhere, Al Sadd of Qatar beat Al Shabab 1-0 to reach the last eight.
Abdulla Koni headed home the winner in the 12th minute and the home side held on for the victory in searing heat that forced organizers to turn on the Al Sadd stadium cooling system.
Al Shabab had several chances to equalize but were repeatedly thwarted by Al Sadd goalkeeper Mohamed Saqr.
In the 13th minute, Al Shabab's Marcelo Camacho produced a spectacular shot that forced Saqr to make a diving save. Camacho was on target again in the 25th but Saqr punched the ball clear.
